Micro IFF Transponder (MITEC)
More about MITEC
Tactical UAVs carry out critical missions for reconnaissance, combat, and other applications. The size and weight of conventional IFF together with cryptographic applique make it impractical for installations in smaller UAVs. Specifically, Group 2 or 3 UAVs can be as small as 21 lbs. BlueHalo’s MITEC Micro IFF Transponder is the only IFF unit designed from ground up to be the smallest IFF with integrated crypto capability. This makes it practical for installation in even the smallest vehicle.
The combined IFF/crypto unit has a size of 12.5 inch³, weighs less than 10 oz., and consumes less than 250W. This differentiates from the conventional approach of using one unit for IFF connected to an external crypto appliqué. The conventional approach will not meet the stringent requirements in reliability, performance and size for modern aircrafts. Mode 5 is an air combat identification system which positively distinguishes friendly from enemy aircraft. MITEC‘s Mode 5 IFF capabilities meets the AIMS 17-1000 Appendix G and AIMS 04-900 standards for Group 2 and Group 3 UAS. Additionally, MITEC works in larger aircrafts and other vehicles.
Features & Benefits
MITEC has the following characteristics and advantages:
- Small Size and Embedded Crypto – MITEC’s design fits within a total volume of 12.5 in3 including embedded crypto capabilities.
- Low Weight and Power Consumption – Weighs less than 10 oz. and consumes less than 250W.
- Key Retention/Loading – Key Retention 3 years, Key Loading via DS-101.
- Mission Flexibility- MITEC is capable of communicating with civil and military air traffic control systems and able to support Mode 5 encryption processes unlike civilian alternatives. The MITEC system is capable of operation at altitudes up to 50,000 ft.
