nxtHealth APPS

nxtHealth APPS

Smart Apps for Patient-Reported Outcomes, Cognitive Assessment, and Rehabilitation

nxtHealth APPS include novel capabilities in the areas of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) collection, cognitive assessment, and rehabilitation therapy. These apps collect objective and subjective patient data, giving clinicians visibility into patients’ experience so that they can remotely monitor progress, adjust exercises, and monitor adverse events. nxtHealth apps use gamification strategies to encourage continued use, fostering compliance with testing and therapy regimes.

Patient-Reported Outcomes

nxtHealth PRO apps allow patients to report symptoms while providing clinicians with real-time reporting and analytics.

Sympatico® allows patients to log and track symptoms and gain access to relevant resources during treatment.

As part of care decision-making, clinicians and researchers need to monitor their patients’ symptoms and side effects. However, collection of symptom information is often limited to clinical interactions, with no updates between visits. Sympatico fills this gap, giving patients and their healthcare providers a mechanism for continuous information collection, feedback, and guidance.

Sympatico makes it quick and easy for patients to record symptoms. Furthermore, it tailors data collection to the individual’s disease, treatment type, and treatment location. The app offers novel user interfaces including graphical representations and a chat bot.

Cognitive Assessment

nxtHealth cognitive assessment apps detect significant cognitive impairments associated with diseases or treatments.

MindCap assesses cognitive function and is sensitive enough to detect debilitating, though often subtle degradation that can result from treatments. For example, treatment such as chemotherapy can slowly harm a patient’s cognitive assessment.

Ongoing tracking of patients’ cognitive function can be challenging, as current assessment tests require lengthy administration. Such tests also lack the sensitivity needed to detect mild cognitive impacts. With an easy-to-use self-assessment app, MindCap is designed to be used by patients in short sessions inside and outside of the clinical setting. MindCap includes a cross-platform mobile patient app for testing and a web-based clinician portal for evaluating results.

MindCap compares a patient’s performance to their baseline using sophisticated algorithms to identify signs of decline in any cognitive domain. In contrast to norm-referenced approaches, MindCap supports longitudinal monitoring of cognitive performance over time.

Vestibular Rehabilitation

nxtHealth vestibular rehabilitation apps support patients in performing exercises and activities outside clinical settings.

VestAid is an end-to-end vestibular rehabilitation support solution that creates adaptive at-home exercise programs. VestAid exercises support physical therapists’ directives, monitor patient performance, and engage patients in strategies to overcome dizziness and vertigo.

The app provides instructional videos and metronome beeps to guide patients during exercises. Gamification makes exercises more fun and encourages adherence to treatment programs. VestAid uses the device’s camera and applies sophisticated visual processing algorithms to assess a patient’s eye gaze and head movement. Machine learning algorithms use performance measures to individualize aspects of the exercise prescription. These measures include desired head motion (direction, speed, and excursion), target size, color, and background, and duration of the exercise. The VestAid web portal allows therapists to view patient progress with secure, HIPAA-compliant access to the patient’s exercise data.

Sleep Therapy

nxtHealth sleep therapy apps use data from patients and sensors to support circadian alignment and sleep hygiene.

SleepAid provides measurement, analysis, and education using data-driven interventions and games to help patients adjust circadian rhythm and improve sleep hygiene.

Applying mathematical models of human circadian phototransduction, circadian stimulation-oscillation, and sleep actigraphy, SleepAid regulates light to achieve circadian realignment. The system uses sensors to detect activeness and ecological light exposure. Meanwhile, the smartphone app provides recommendations on environmental lighting and gamification techniques to encourage healthy sleeping habits. Effective sleep management requires use of the SleepAid APP and WEARBLS.  The SleepAid WEARBLS consists of a wrist-worn actigraphy sensor and a light exposure sensor worn near eye level. The SleepAid APP computes and recommends light treatments. Additionally, SleepAid collects information about daily habits, instructs healthy sleep habits, and engages the user in activities that help improve sleep health.
