Future UAS Demand Projection

UAS-Max helps determine the projection of future UAS flights. Unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) are one of the fastest growing sectors of aviation today.

More about UAS-MAX

Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) are one of the fastest growing sectors of aviation today. Likewise, given the growing concern with respect to the safety of these flights, there needs to be new tools to understand the demand and impact on the National Airspace (NAS). UAS-Max, developed by BlueHalo, is a UAS demand forecast generation tool that provides NAS stakeholders with sample UAS demand datasets that model and study the impact of UAS flights in controlled Airspace.

UAS-Max generated data is focused on UAS flights 2,000 feet above ground level or higher. The UAS missions and mission specific flight data are developed based on interviews with SME’s and the key stakeholders that are planning to fly UAS. Furthermore, BlueHalo generated and validated these detailed demand forecasts using advanced modeling and simulation techniques. In addition, UAS-Max datasets provide users with critical data, such as UAS mission characteristics, mission specific demand estimates, aircraft types, flight routes, departure/arrival airports and other flight plan data. For example, these parameters assist in modeling UAS traffic in the NAS by utilizing a wide range of relevant use cases. Additionally, each UAS-Max mission data product has the relevant data needed to model and analyze the impact of UAS operations in the NAS for the representative use case.

UAS-Max demand data is currently available for the following missions:

  • Air Quality Monitoring
  • Wildlife Monitoring
  • Flood Mapping
  • Law Enforcement
  • Point-Source Emissions Monitoring
  • Wildfire Monitoring
  • Aerial Imaging and Mapping
  • Spill Monitoring
  • Maritime Patrol
  • Border Patrol
  • Weather Data Collection
  • News Gathering
  • Airborne Pathogen Tracking

Features & Benefits

Specifically, UAS-Max mission data helps researchers, analysts, policy makers, and other users better understand the impact of UAS in the National Airspace. In addition, UAS and NAS stakeholders can use UAS-Max data sets to:

  • Study UAS integration with commercial flights in class A, B, C, D, and E airspace
  • Study the safety characteristics of UAS flights in the future
  • Analyze the impact of UAS on the frequency communication spectrum
  • Compute the impact of UAS on noise and emissions throughout the NAS
  • Generate encounter geometries to test “detect and avoid” algorithms

The following table shows the list of missions available for purchase. Furthermore, the data available for each mission includes:

  • Route of flight, aircraft type, departure time, and the origin and arrival airports
  • An airport database with the airport code, name, latitude/longitude, and altitude
  • Flights at the forecast maximum demand level
  • Documentation for each mission, to understand its purpose and basis of forecast
