ARLINGTON, VA – BlueHalo, a leading provider of critical capabilities and technologies across Space, Air, and Cyber domains, has announced a partnership with the University of Maryland (UMD) MATRIX Lab and the UMD UAS Research and Operations Center (UROC) to support research and testing on long-range communications and autonomous systems.
Faculty and students from the MATRIX Lab and UROC will work jointly with BlueHalo engineers and scientists to conduct research and development on Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and communication systems and perform testing of algorithms and radio waveforms at the MATRIX Lab’s open air-land lab and anechoic chamber. Future research efforts will utilize the MATRIX lab’s water tunnel and outdoor testing capabilities.
BlueHalo and UMD will leverage strategic partnerships to make a positive impact on national defense, advance autonomous technologies, and develop a strong talent pipeline in Maryland and beyond through student internships, scholarships, and education programs. These partners include the university’s regional relationships with the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) and the Naval Surface Warfare Centers at Indian Head, Carderock, and Dahlgren along with BlueHalo’s airborne testing and autonomous systems support for the Department of Defense Test Resource Management Center (TRMC).
“With access to world-class resources, faculty, and facilities at the University of Maryland, BlueHalo is looking forward to the work ahead–advancing groundbreaking autonomous innovations, bolstering our national security posture, and creating a robust college-to-career pipeline,” said Jonathan Moneymaker, BlueHalo Chief Executive Officer.
“We are excited about this partnership,” said Dr. Reza Ghodssi, MATRIX Lab Executive Director of Research and Innovation. “BlueHalo substantively adds value to our endeavor, and we are looking forward to creating new opportunities and solutions for our stakeholders, especially around the test and evaluation of autonomy.”
“BlueHalo leverages our expertise in autonomy and rapid prototyping capabilities to develop transformative innovations in Space technologies, UAS / cUAS, AI/ML and autonomous systems,” said Dr. Vikram Manikonda, BlueHalo Chief Technology Officer. “With access to world-class faculty, facilities, and resources provided through this new partnership with the University of Maryland, BlueHalo is excited to expand our testing and evaluation of autonomous and RF systems in support of critical national defense missions.”
The University of Maryland and BlueHalo are invested in workforce development and critical technology innovations. Both organizations welcome partners in this mission in order to expand the synergistic ecosystem and spark innovation. Interested parties can learn more at https://uroc.umd.edu.
